ID Released For Man Killed After Being Struck By Truck Backing Up In Parking Lot In Nesconset

The identity of the 68-year-old Long Island man killed after being hit by a commercial vehicle backing up in a parking lot in Nesconset. has been released.

Daniel Curcio was driving a commercial truck in reverse in the parking lot of Handy Pantry Shopping Center, located at 279 Smithtown Boulevard, when the vehicle struck a man walking through the parking lot at approximately 9:30 a.m., Suffolk County Police said.

The pedestrian, Albert Geerders, 68, of Ronkonkoma, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, said police. Curcio, 30, of Nesconset, was not injured.

A vehicle safety check was conducted on scene by the Suffolk County Police Department Motor Carrier Safety Unit. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
